Who are some of Canada’s youth activists that are using TikTok to further their cause ? This is part of the We Stop Scrolling research project Tech for Good Canada embarked on in September 2021 with Ontario Tech University’s innovative Steam-3D Maker Lab.

Teaching Digital Citizenship Skills to Canada’s Students
The research is part of a project that is open to all Canadian students, teachers and schools that wish to leverage social media for educational purposes. More and more now know social media is not designed with children’s and teen’s mental health or safety in mind.
During the winter 2021 term, we’re inviting secondary teachers in Canada to watch this 40 minute presentation on how a class can participate and develop digital citizenship skills on TikTok and Instagram to fight the addictive, sexualized and violent content that’s all too present on today’s unregulated digital media.
We also have partnered with an emerging local digital news media in the Toronto area for young adults: The Green Line.to, by reposting some of their activism-focused content, like this interview of climate activist Allie Rougeot you can see here on their Instagram account.
Follow the We Stop Scrolling account on TikTok to discover what causes young Canadians are talking about on these social media, from climate change, to mental health, to indigenous issues, black lives matter, asian hate and body image.
